I’m here to help.
About Me
I am a lifelong reader and writer, and I have spent most of my life developing and polishing my craft.
I began my journey through higher education as a student-athlete and quickly fell in love with English and Sociology. After completing my B.A. at Wellesley College, I pursued my PhD in Sociology at UNC-Chapel Hill. I’m a proud Tar Heel!
Currently, I am a tenured professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I am an award-winning teacher and mentor who asks good questions of my students and frames feedback in direct and positive ways.
As a trained writing instructor, I have taught writing-intensive courses at liberal arts colleges such as Bowdoin College, Salem College, and Merrimack College. I have mentored hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students through the research process as they composed research papers, undergraduate & master’s theses, dissertations, peer-reviewed journal articles, and books. One of my favorite parts of being a professor is shepherding students through the research process from developing a research question to writing up their findings. I am a thorough and constructive reviewer and I love providing colleagues with constructive feedback for revision.
I have published peer-reviewed journal articles in several top journals. In 2018, I published an edited volume with Routledge, Girls, Aggression, and Intersectionality: Transforming the Discourse of “Mean Girls,” which deconstructed the “mean girls” hype and examined its consequences for the disproportionate punishment of Black, Latina, and queer girls in schools and the justice system.
My areas of specialization are in the critical social sciences. I have edited books, journal articles, theses & dissertations, book chapters, and grant proposals in subject areas including sociology, criminology, education, urban studies, communication, cultural & media studies, political science, and English literature. I can intervene at any point in the writing process, from brainstorming to polishing a manuscript for publication.
